SEO Guide For Webmasters After Penguin Update

| May 29, 2012 | 2 Comments

Recent penguin 1.0 update from Google has pushed webmasters to backward and forced them to rethink about their SEO strategy.  After penguin 1.0 update even reputable sites have been affected badly and thus massive changes in search engine ranking have seen immediately. This result formed a big question in front of experienced Google webmasters, what strategy to execute next.

Google Penguin update 1.1

But, Google cannot be so much cruel to their quality publishers. So, before couple of days ago, they came up with another penguin update named Google penguin update 1.1. Somehow, this update helped them to gain some of their lost ranking but not fully. Anyway, the question here is what the difference between penguin 1.0 and 1.1 was. Let’s analyze and discuss about these consecutive Google penguin updates.

Well, for your information penguin 1.1 was a minor update which seemed to be refreshed search algorithm. According to Matt Cutts this update Affects 0.1 % English searches, which means that was just a reset of Google search algorithm. Anyway, most webmaster found their organic search has got some clear route from Google search.  I have been reading various forums and facebook groups, what I came to know is that most of them who have old websites or blogs got recovered more than they had expected.

Difference Between Google Penguin Update 1.0 and 1.1

If you can remember, the aim of penguin update 1.0 was to reduce or remove web spam links from search engine.  The result is in front all webmasters around internet. According to my observation after first update, I have seen most traffic started coming from social media sites like twitter and stumble upon. But there was very few traffic from search engines (organic traffic). So, as a result big websites which mostly relies on organic traffic from search engines had started losing their SERP ranking. Obviously, other small websites with same keyword been shown up in serp.

Recent penguin update 1.1 was just to reset it again. Minor though, but it was enough for everyone I guess. Most business websites which were lost their ranking in last update has got some lift, no that to their original ranking though but still enough recovery for them. It’s not that every new website has lost their rank, whoever had original unique content will hold their Search engine ranking. Frankly speaking, my websites have not been affected too much from these updates. There were just few up and downs found after penguin 1.1 update.

The conclusion here I cannot draw easily, since many websites and blogs are still busy trying to find out the best way to recover from penguin update. But one simple thing from my experience I can tell you here is that I never been used any link building techniques, so there are hardly any spam sites linked to my websites.  As a result, no penalization or changes in SERPs I have faced ever. If you are still looking for solution to this problem then you can find out how to recover from dropped ranking in my last post here.

  1. I think SEO is not something you do not need to care about so much after this update. Some of my optimized sites rankings went down huge on most keywords. But the sites which are not really SEO optimized were not affected or even went up. That is something really nice and shows that content is now the most important factor for a website to become successful.
